Purifying the Heart

Purity is an important dimension of simplicity. Much grace and effort is needed daily to purify the heart so that it is prepared to receive the Lord. A pure heart is more effective in receiving the grace of the Spirit and in collaborating with His will. If we keep the goal of our salvation in mind, we will find the motivation we need to pursue the daily purification of our hearts in earnest.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” (Matthew 5.8)

Cleansed Garments

The Father’s glory is sheer light;
No stain of sin can co-exist.
As noon-day sun dispels all night,
So heaven’s souls are the purest.

He wills that ev’ry soul be saved;
He has prepared a place for us.
Turning from Him, one is enslaved –
Why would one, then, betray His trust?

The soul that trusts invites His grace
To purify the heart of all
Its stain of sin — ev’ry last trace –
Heaven’s garment cleansed from a pall.

The purified strives to preserve
Its state from its old ways of sin;
Yet not hesitating to serve –
The light of Christ shines from within.

Repentant hearts are purified;
To them, mercy’s never denied.

Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when He is revealed, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. And all who have this hope in Him purify themselves, just as He is pure.” (1 John 3.2-3)

Lord, purify the depths of my heart, that my soul may be a transparent reflection of Your light and love. Amen.
